Work out the holdback held back on your contract.

Most provinces require a statutory holdback to protect lien claimants. Pick your province and your contract value to see the amount.

    Sound familiar?

    • “You're not sure how much the GC is allowed to hold back on your invoices”
    • “You finished the job months ago and the holdback still hasn't been released”
    • “You want to make sure the number on the payment certificate matches what the law actually requires”

    What this tool does

Takes your contract value and your province and shows the statutory holdback amount under that province's lien or construction-payment legislation.

    What the law actually says

    • Most provinces require 10% of the contract price held back to protect lien claimants (Manitoba 7.5%; PEI 15%/20%). Quebec works differently, via a legal hypothec. Check your province's lien legislation for exact rules and release timing.
